Warner Bros. hopes to make a "Justice League" movie and wants this weekend's "Man of Steel" to be "the starting point for a shared universe," revealed screenwriter David S. Goyer (who penned "Steel" as well as the "Dark Knight" movies) in a recent interview with Den of Geek.
"Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder has teased that other DC Comics characters could exist in the world of his movie. And Christopher Nolan, who directed the "Dark Knight" movies, is the executive producer of "Man of Steel."
"We could meet Batman, or Wonder Woman, or the Justice League in these movies," Goyer said of future movies. "But they all hinge on box office reception."
Considering "Man of Steel" is triumphing at the early box office and Warner Bros. has already green-lit a sequel, things are looking very good.
Still, as Goyer warns Den of Geek, that doesn't mean Christian Bale should start suiting up again.
"It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris's [Nolan] 'Dark Knight' trilogy, and it would be disingenuous to say that Zack and I haven't had various conversations on set, around 'what if' and 'moving forward,'" Goyer said.
It's definitely a tenuous "what if," considering other attempts at making a "Justice League" movie have failed. (The most recent, in 2008, would've starred Armie Hammer has Batman and Common as Green Lantern.)
So what could happen moving forward? And will Batman get another reboot? Though Nolan has said he's done with "Batman," the studio will likely want to keep the hit franchise going. Or they could copy Marvel's "Avengers" model and spend time establishing some of the other characters first.
